An enduring rock opera from 1971, Jesus Christ Superstar follows the last week of the life of Jesus Christ largely through the perspective of Judas Iscariot. Based on the Gospels’ accounts of those incredibly meaningful last few days, the story explores the personal relationships and struggles between Jesus, Judas, Mary Magdalene, his disciples, and the Roman Empire. The iconic 1970s rock musical score contains such well-known numbers as “Superstar,” “I Don’t Know How to Love Him,” “Gethsemane,” and “Everything’s Alright.”
